The Hirer's responsibilities
When hiring a crane, it is important to be aware that Horizon Reinforcing & Crane Hire Co. Ltd operate under the Construction Plant-hire Association's standard crane hire contract. This clearly lays out the responsibilities of the hirer and the company.

​The crane and operator become the responsibility of the company or individual hiring the equipment as soon as it leaves the public highway to access the site. Please note that this includes access roads if the site cannot be accessed immediately from the public highway.
The Hirer must:

Provide an Appointed Person/Competent Person to plan the operation. They are responsible for the plan and all personnel/equipment involved

Prepare a method statement for the lift

Ensure signalling arrangements are in place, with competent signallers/slingers in control of the operation

​Ensure adequate risk assessments have been carried out, that control measures have been implemented in line with the assessment, and that the lifting plan/method statement is adhered to

Ensure that the equipment is suitable and adequate for the lift

Ensure that the equipment is suitable and adequate for the lift

Ensure that all personnel are trained, qualified and competent

​Provide insurance to cover loss of or damage to our equipment while on site as well as the goods being lifted, continuing hire charges while the equipment undergoes repairs following damage, public liability, and injury to the operator and other parties (including damage to property, when arising from the operation)
In addition:

The Appointed Person must understand all aspects of the operation

In summary, it is the responsibility of the customer to plan, manage control and insure the lift, including plant and all personnel. We are able to arrange any additional insurance on your behalf if required for a set percentage fee.
